2008 ‘Hobson’s Choice’ by Harold Brighouse
The Chedworth Drama Society is an energetic and versatile drama group who have produced varied and well-received productions every year since 2000. We are always keen to welcome new members, be it actors or help behind-the-scenes.

2005 ‘4 Plays for Coarse Actors’ by Michael Green |
The drama group was re-formed in 2000 with a production of ‘She Stoops to Conquer’ after a gap of approximately 12 years. Since then there has been a production every year performed in the Village Hall for three nights in November. We have a well equipped stage with a full lighting and sound system, a local store for scenery with new scenery created in-house as are most of the costumes, supplemented as necessary by hiring from a costume
hire company. |
2003 ‘Beyond a Joke’ by Derek Benfield |
Currently there are approximately 30 members from whom a small committee is drawn to oversee and organise each production. We elect a Chair (John Robson) to head up the Society and there is a Production Manager (Venetia Champniss). The Director for each production is a member of the Society and can change from one year to the next.
There is an evaluation of the previous production in January and an AGM is held each April. There is an annual subscription (currently £10) to pay for production costs including costumes, scenery, props, scripts etc.
Rehearsals for a new production are usually for approximately three months and the schedule for a November production is given below. |

The 2011 production is an evening of classic comedy with two one-act plays by legendary playwrights, Noel Coward and Tom Stoppard.
The evening will start with ‘Ways and Means’, one of a series of one-act plays by Coward from the 1930s . The story concerns an heiress and her gambling husband, who are plagued by debt and embarrassment as everything always seems to go wrong for them. Their honour is saved just in time when …… come and see to find out what happens next!
The second play will be ‘The Real Inspector Hound’ by Stoppard and first produced in the late 1960s.The plot follows two theatre critics who are reviewing a clichéd country house murder mystery, in the style of a whodunit, when by chance they become involved in the action causing a series of events that parallel the play they are watching.
