Chedworth Wins the Gloucestershire Calor Gas Village of the Year 2007 !
You may have heard that Chedworth won the Business section of the Calor Gas Gloucestershire Village of the Year in 2006. The prize of £500 allowed the Parish Plan to move forward and the results of the actions undertaken by the Parish Plan Steering Group have contributed significantly to this year’s overall win.
From the Calor website :
‘The national Calor Village of the Year® judges look for well-balanced, pro-active, caring communities which, irrespective of size, have made the best of local opportunities to maintain and enhance the quality of life for all residents.’

The competition entry form is over 60 pages long and requires even more detail than the Parish Plan Questionnaire! This was completed and submitted as a joint Parish Council and Parish Plan venture by Susie Moore, Parish Council Chairman, and Lindy Gallagher Parish Councilor and Parish Plan Co-ordinator.
Chedworth’s Results
- Second/Highly commended for the Best Parish Magazine: The Hill & Valley

The total Prize money will be split 50/50 between the Parish Council and the Parish Plan. The Parish Plan prize money will go towards the completion of the Plan, and having already established a business register identifying skills and resources within the village, we hope to provide support for the business community through the Business Club by:
- Establishing the business website
- Expanding the business register, identifying resources.
- Using the existing database to conduct a survey to determine the resources needed by existing and aspiring businesses in the village.

Next Business Meeting Friday 21st of September 7pm at the Seven Tuns. Anyone with a Business or thinking of starting one, please come!

Chedworth is now through to the National competition to be judged in London, and with a prize of £7,000. Another lengthy form filling session is anticipated! The competition entry form will be available on the web – it was not posted at the time of writing.

Chedworth's
Parish Plan
Progresses
The Steering Group is delighted with the response to the Parish Plan questionnaire which was sent to all households just before Christmas. The excellent response rate is largely due to the efforts of the volunteer distributors who soon discovered that distribution is the easy bit; it's the collection of completed forms which takes the time, often requiring multiple visits per household. Thanks to everyone who took the trouble to answer the questions and to all the distributors who braved wicked weather conditions in the cause of People Empowerment.
Results from the survey are now available to the general public. The full results can be viewed here. For convenience the findings have also been broken down into separate components and summarised as follows:
