‘Best of British’ Concert in St Andrew’s Church 2007
The Chedworth Singers is an informal but enthusiastic group of singers who enjoy the pleasure of singing in all its forms. We first met in 1996 and over the years have presented an annual concert as well as contributing to various events and occasions in the village.
New members are always welcome, an enjoyment of singing is all that is needed!
Established in 1996, the Singers have enjoyed the challenge of singing many different music genres from sacred music (Fauré’s Requiem, Haydn’s Nelson Mass) through to popular songs from musicals, spirituals and madrigals. We have also joined many other choirs at the Albert Hall and Birmingham Symphony Hall to sing major works including the Mozart Requiem and Vivaldi’s Gloria.

The annual concert, usually held in St Andrew’s Church, is always very popular and as well as the Singers’ contribution, guest musicians and soloists have ensured a varied and interesting programme. The concerts support local charities and over the years we have made donations to
St Andrew’s Church and School, Winston’s Wish, Maggie’s Cotswold Campaign, Friends of Cirencester Hospital and various local hospices.

Closer to home, Christmas is always a busy time for the Singers. There is the Christmas sing-along in the Village Hall, carols at the Seven Tuns and the service of Nine Lessons and Carols in St Andrew’s Church. The annual Harvest Festival, weddings and private social engagements provide a full and rewarding diary for us.
| The Singers are most fortunate to have had very experienced musical directors. Penny Mitchell was with us almost from the start until 2005 when Shirley Jee, the current director, joined us. We are also very lucky to have a most accomplished pianist in Rachel Emmerson from Aldsworth. |

New Members
We welcome new members from Chedworth and surrounding villages, all you need is a desire to sing. We do not hold auditions and you do not even have to be able to read music, although it does help of course! You can come along any Thursday evening and there will be a warm welcome.
If you want more information, then contact one of the Singers or ring/email Robert Watson (Chair of the Singers) – details below.
Organisation
There is an annual subscription (currently £30). This pays for sheet music, hire of music books, insurance and various other administrative needs – new members would not be expected to contribute until they have made a commitment to join. We have a membership of approximately 40 and a Committee that meets regularly to discuss and plan future events. The AGM is held soon after the summer concert. The Singers also enjoy a social evening at the Seven Tuns after singing a selection of Christmas music and Carols and collecting funds for charity.
